The Oral stage of Jewish Scripture 1850-900 BC
The Jews had lots of memories of God's actions in their lives. For centuries the memories were carefully passed down by word of mouth before they were eventually written down. Parents told their children the stories of their ancestors. These memories were handed down as stories, sayings and teachings from one generation to the next.
Most people at the time could not read or write. |
